2017 Lancashire Arts Festival Awards

The Lancashire Arts Festival Awards is one of the most anticipated activities within the festival programme.

After conferring with the staff course team, Course Leaders each nominated just one student who best represents their discipline.  The criteria being:

  • Final year Undergraduate or Foundation level student
  • Quality of the student’s final ‘project’
  • Ability to engage with an audience that is interested in their area of expertise

Creative Lancashire sponsor the awards. There were around 30 nominations in total from which 11 have been chosen as winners.  All nominees were invited to attend the Lancashire Arts Festival Awards Ceremony which took place at UCLan’s Venue 53 on Friday 9 June, 3.00pm – 4.00pm.   The event included a drinks reception and the awards were presented by our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mike Thomas and Chairman of the Creative Lancashire Board, Charles Hadcock. The nominees’ family, close friends and course tutors attended to show their support.

For 2017, nominees will have their work exhibited at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston by an expert curatorial team led by Professor Lubaina Himid.  Nominees have been invited to invigilate their work at the Official Opening of the exhibition on Wednesday 21 June, 5.30pm-7.30pm.  The event includes drinks, canapés, performances and the opportunity to meet our special guest speaker Patrick Grant, Creative Director of Savile Row tailors Norton & Sons and menswear line, E. Tautz and resident judge on the BBC’s ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’.  The nominees’ family, close friends and course tutors are all welcome to attend.  Online registration is required, nominees and course tutors will be contacted via email.

Following the Official Opening, the exhibition is open to the public from Thursday 22 June – Sunday 2 July.  See the Harris Museum and Art Gallery website for their opening times.
